The "Eyes, Jaws, Recipes, Bugs" series of works appears to have been a drafting phase which eventually split off into the several directions of Yanni's finest masterpieces.  In this particular painting we see many of the elements which were further developed in later works: reiterations, eyes and jaws, eyes and mouth (notice the gasping face in the lower left), protruding eye, the use of black and red.
