It is hard not to notice that Yanni's art is full of eyes. Or so it seems. But then one notices mouths and jaws and as the journey through his works continues, other body parts emerge and interrelate with each other until you finally realize that you are no longer sure if you are looking at an eye, or a mouth, a torso or a skull, a phallus or a finger. You will see images hidden within images until the hidden image becomes impossible to ignore. At times Yanni's art seems to emit unspeakable messages of pain or fear at others a wisdom beyond this world. Throughout his career we see eyes in some form or another. In one of the paintings below we see the familiar protruding eye surrounded by many small eyes reminiscent of the mati of Greek tradition. The eyes in Yanni's art take many forms, long and thin at times, like nails. Nails painted yellow which appear as witnesses inside crypt-like prisons. They are enlightened. They have "seen" death.
